Pearson College UWC is a unique and vibrant Canadian educational institution -- and a fulfilling place to work!. As one of 17 UWC (United World Colleges) schools, our mission is aligned with that of the UWC: "To make education a force to unite people, nations and cultures for peace and a sustainable future."
A group of visionaries founded the College in the early 1970s with the first students arriving in September 1974. In creating the school as a national memorial to Nobel Prize (1957) winner and former Prime Minister of Canada, Lester B. Pearson, the College helps fulfil Mr. Pearson's vision of bringing together young people of great leadership potential from every corner of the world in an international school on the West Coast of Canada. More than 40 years later, Pearson College UWC is renewing its commitment to these foundational principles. Come join us as we help educate young people who will build international and intercultural understanding and who will make genuine and positive differences in the world.
Located in a beautiful wilderness setting near Victoria on Vancouver Island, and on the unceded territory of the Scia'new (Beecher Bay) First Nation, Pearson College UWC is one of 17 UWC (United World Colleges) located around the world. The College provides a two-year International Baccalaureate education to up to 200 16- to 19-year-old youths from up to 100 countries at any one time. Students are selected on merit, based on their personality, promise and potential to thrive at the College. We award each student a scholarship based on financial need, with scholarships entirely funded through donations.
The College welcomes these students regardless of their socio-economic background, politics, religion, ethnicity, language or gender. Our education actively promotes intercultural understanding and the development of genuine concern for others, founded on shared life experiences and cooperative, residential living. The experiential education program is intense and rigorous, designed to support students to become emerging leaders who understand that change is possible through skilled dialogue, courageous action and a determination to make situations better -- whether local, national or international in scope.
With this intentionally diverse population of students, the College builds a purposeful and highly experiential program. Much of what we do focuses on getting to know and understand each other. This begins with each student sharing a room with three others—four students who likely come from four different countries, with four different first languages, four different religious backgrounds, four different food cultures and four different musical genre preferences. Through this challenging living model, they learn one of the College’s most important lessons: tolerance.
As Lester B. Pearson himself once said, “How can there be peace without people understanding each other; and how can this be if they don’t know each other?”
We offer all employees a competitive compensation and benefits package, including opportunities for professional development.
